The leather strap is 1-3/4" wide so it fits through your pant loops.   Backed in leather and sewn.  (Don't forget to shine up the brass buckle every once in a while, the brass patinas with age-- but it's easy to get back to bright gold by using brass cleaner and a soft rag. )
